A food story over 10 years in the making.
Our Story
In 2017, Eric, one of our co-owners, spent a year working on organic farms and picking avocados in New Zealand. During his time there, he was introduced to the beloved Kiwi staple: the meat pie. From humble gas station mince and cheese pies to the indulgent, high-end butter chicken pies found in fine restaurants, Eric quickly became hooked on the variety and richness of these savory treats.
After returning to the U.S., Eric couldn’t shake the idea of bringing New Zealand’s iconic pies to America. The dream? To open a shop or food truck that would allow others to experience these delicious pies. Over the next few years, he started gathering equipment and supplies from both New Zealand and Australia, ready to make that dream a reality.
It wasn’t long before Eric began experimenting with recipes, sharing his creations with friends and coworkers. That’s when Derek, co-owner and friend, entered the picture. Eric and Derek had worked together at a local brewery and shared a mutual desire to start a business, as well as a love for a certain jam band from Vermont.
After trying one of Eric’s pies, Derek immediately saw the potential. With years of kitchen experience, Derek brought a fresh perspective on how to adapt the flavors to better suit American tastes. Combining Eric’s New Zealand-inspired recipes with Derek’s culinary expertise, and plenty of trial and error, Divided Pie was born in early 2024.
